Stepping up this year’s wellness challenge

Every spring, Sigler’s Wellness Committee leads the charge on an optional, company-wide wellness challenge called Well-4-Life. During this 6-week challenge, participants are placed into color-coded teams, given a team t-shirt and the friendly/fierce competition begins! Scoring involves tallying points for:

  • Minutes of activity
  • Ounces of water
  • Servings of fruits/veggies

We try to switch things up a bit each year to keep the challenge exciting and generate the best wellness-related results, but the goal of promoting overall wellness through exercise and nutrition remains the same.

This year, we added a new category: GRATITUDE. Participants listed three things they were grateful or every day for three weeks. We’re always looking for ways to incorporate mental wellness into this challenge and science has proven that expressing gratitude:

  • Increases mental and emotional well-being
  • Improves sleep
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Improves relationships
  • Increases metabolism
  • Decreases stress levels

Practicing this for just three weeks can form a habit, and you are off to a healthier, happier you.

Adding a mental exercise to the challenge, in addition to physical exercise and nutrition, made the challenge feel more complete and well-rounded. We have expressed gratitude for everything from ponytail hair to a family member’s improving health to new white socks. All of it counts and all of it leads to a healthier and happier self. We are grateful for this challenge.
